I've just finished testing the JPEG quality of HTML galleries built using Expression Media and thought the Forum might be interested. Thanks to Anita Oakly at Microsoft for her help.
The test was done using many different file formats (small JPG, large JPG, Tiff, DNG, CR2, and NEF. I opened these is separate browser windows and clicked through evaluating image quality and looking for issues.

Test Results:

1. Service pack 1 fixes HTML gallery JPEG quality problems.
2. Custom JPEG quality settings maxes out at a medium size, which makes bad looking JPEGs.
3. Large seems to be the best compromise, as the quality difference between Large and Best is almost inappreciable.
4. When using tags(tokens) from iView html templates, like (iView:FileName) a Question mark (?) shows up after the element in Firefox.
5. Profiles and Metadata is stripped by default, but can be preserved by checking embed annotations and preserve color profiles.
6. EM converts the color space to sRGB on the fly.
7. EM will not make the images dimensions bigger, but it will make the file size bigger based based on the quality setting. On a rare occasion I have Jpg images that are smaller than the image dimensions for a new gallery. I.E. I have a 600px X 600px image and my gallery images are to be 800 X 800, the image will remain 600X600 but the file size will be larger based on the quality setting.
8. Templates are now located in multiple directories:
Mac - in one of three folders:
· ~User/Library/Application Support/Expression Media/Plug-ins/HTML Templates
· /Library/Application Support/Expression Media/Plug-ins/HTML Templates
· Network/Library/Application Support/Expression Media/Plug-ins/HTML Templates

Windows Vista- In one of these two folders:
C:\program files\Microsoft Expression\Expression Media 1.0\en\plug-ins\HTML Templates
c:\users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Expression Media\Plug-ins\HTML templates.

Windows Vista 64Bit- In one of these two folders:
C:\program files(X86)\Microsoft Expression\Expression Media 1.0\en\plug-ins\HTML Templates
c:\users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Expression Media\Plug-ins\HTML templates.

Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\application Data\Expression Media\Plug-ins\HTML Templates

Is it possible to SEARCH the Expression Media HTML Galleries?  I'd like to be able to search by keyword but haven't seen that as an option.  Any advice on this?

Betsy,
In order to be searcahble, the galleries would need to be powered by some kind of database residing on your server, which would mean an installation of some kind.

So, no, this is not possible with these galleries.  There are lots of other solutions for this that you can push the JPEGs to.
