saving movie slideshows

I know that slideshows can be made under 'make' and 'save slideshow as movie', but I'm wondering
if there is anyway to change the format from .mov to a straight Quicktime, or more universal format?. I sent a .mov to someone
who was PC based, and they could not open it. Or, once the .mov is created, is there a way to convert to some other
kind of PC type file?

I'm not an expert on this topic, but .mov files
are
normal Quicktime files as far as I am concerned - and they play perfectly well on my PC. The most likely reason your friend could not view your .mov file is that they did not have Quicktime installed (or possibly not an up to date version). There are plenty of shareware solutions for video format conversions. From memory, I think Quicktime itself will export a .mov to other formats.
