"multiple values" showing up in keywords

Hey all,
This is something I have just notice happen. In Bridge, I give all the images a basic Metetadate template, then, select all and keyword with words that apply to all images, then go to a smaller group and add keywords that apply only to those. Now am noticeing that when I look at the file info, instead of shwoing the keywords I had first added, it simply says "Multiple values" as a keyword. This is even if I only have ONE image selected. In the keyword panel of bridge it shows all the previous keyword unchecked and a keyword "Multiple values", checked. It also shows "Multiple values" as a keyword I can place from the keyword "fly out" window.
Are all my original keywords still there and if so how do I show them, or what am I doing incorrectly?

Paul,
You probably have the phrase "Multiple Keywords" in your template. This can happen if you select more than one image when yoou create the template: if there are different keywords in each image. Check this out and see if it's the problem.

I have also noticed this behaviour in Bridge. It seems to be something new (caused by an automatic update perhaps?)
If I select a dozen pictures and give them keywords of say Birds, Cedar Waxwing and then select 5 of them to flag them as Horizontal I will see the "(multiple values)" in the keywords.
I am rather new at this so it could be that I am entering some things via the keywords panel and others via the info panel but it sure is a problem for me right now.

Phil,
This behavior will happen with multiple images selected in the Info Panel, not the Keywords pane.
This is one reason I don't like to do custom keywording in Bridge. I do bulk keywording in Bridge, and custom work in iView.

I have encountered this problem as well, so anytime I wish to do any custom keywording in bridge after adding the bulk keywording, I always use the keyword panel.
A word of caution here, and this is probably what's biting you, if you ever bring up the File Info panel with multiple files selected that have different keywords, you will see the (Multiple Values) entry in the keyword window. If you click "ok" instead of "cancel", the phrase (Multiple Values) will actually be written as a keyword to those images deleting the previous keywords.... user beware ;-).

I bet that is what happed to us. I just "assumed" that I could select a variety of imges that had different keyword and apply new, common keyword to those! I guess not. Thank you!

Paul,
I would say that this is a bug in Bridge. It should either not let you save, or not add the "multiple values" to the keywords.
In any case, you can see how it would be problematic to open images with multiple different sets of keywords into the Info Dialog, make a change and save. It wants to apply the same data to all files, but they don't all have the same starting points.
I guess I'd suggest a warning that there is a problem, rather than assigning the Multiple Values term.

Agreed. Extra logic should be in place for this.
