I just want to make sure my testing is correct before I assume something, but let's say I have some Canon CR2 files which already have an XMP sidecar with ACR settings and other information such as Keywords.  If I extract the Meta Data in IVMP to the same folder it will overwrite the existing XMP sidecar and my information such as keywords will be in the new XMP file since it was in the database, but information such as ACR settings will be lost.  Is my thinking correct on this.

Thanks,
John

That sounds right.   The issue with CR2 files is tricky.  Since they do not document metadata, and don't provide libraries to sync metadata like Nikon does, there's just not a good way to send the metadata back to them.  Some applications will do it, like PhotoMechanic, but not always with good results. I heard yesterday of a way that re-adding metadata in PM will toast your CR settings.

Did you try to Sync Annotations, rather than Extract Metadata?

Unfortunately, the only way I know of to export the info back reliably is to use DNG.

I do believe I tried Sync Annotations, but I didn't expect it to do anything because I don't believe IVMP will write to anything Canon RAW Files via an XMP sidecar unless the extract metadata is used.  I also understand exactly what you are saying with DNG, however Idimager and ACR seem to work fine writing to the same XMP sidecar.  I guess I just feel like the same would be a reasonable solution for IVMP.  I just can't jump on the DNG push because Bibble is one of my weapons, I just like to keep those ACR settings if I can when I use it.  Thanks for the confirmation.

You are correct that Extract Metadata overwrites any existing XMP files in the target folder, and this can destroy ACR settings. I'd suggest you put in a feature request for iView to merge the XMP files. I have.
