Has anyone here got experience of producing books through services like Lulu and AsukaBook? I'm hoping to produce a small volume coffee table book - think vanity publishing but with a few potential customers and a learning experience for me. Quality is an important consideration, and the images would be mainly b&w - potentially with a paragraph or two on each facing page. I seem to find most positive comments for AsukaBook (Blurb seems to have problems shipping to the Old World).

I know I won't be happy until I can get to a trade show and handle the output myself. But any experience here?

Hi John,

I use and recommend Momento Books in Australia. Their software is really simple to use but PC only, however they can make books from PDFs. I use a professional designer to layout books.

The pro service I linked to above offers more features such as larger books, square formats, and the option to remove their brand. You can add your own brand if you wish. The quality is very high, much better than the iPhoto Books we can get in Australia. Many pros use them for portfolio or small runs books and as wedding albums. An A3 book costs about $300AUS.
