Peter,
In chapter 3  of THE BOOK you describe how you have your G4 and big drive box portions of your digital archive located in the equipment storage room  where the fan noise is not a problem  The monitor and keyboard are located elsewhere, in your camera storage area.  In chapter 4 you refer to your "Photoshop workstation" which I assume is separate from the archive workstation.  My question is, in your set-up can you not do archive work on iVew Media Pro on the Photoshop workstation?  Is that why you have a dedicated archive workstation?  In other words, does iView Media Pro limit you to doing metadata work only on the same computer where it is loaded? If this is so as I suspect, it will effect where the archive workstation is located.
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,
The server, big drive box, monitor and keyboard are all in the equipment room.  The Workstations are in the work area of the studio.  Images that are accessible over a network can all be cataloged by iView.

I moved the images from a studio workstation to the one in the equipment room for several reasons:
Not enough room on the studio counter for the drive box
The Drive Box is noisy
I wanted to be able to lock up the drives that hold my archive in a secure place

In order for iView to see and catalog images, it needs to be able to mount the drives.  These can be local or available over a network.

Thanks for clearing that up Peter.  We're building out a room for three work stations and an adjacent walk-in closet for the server and switch.  I just needed to be absouletly sure a dedicated archive management station was not needed prior to testing the DAM software.  Putting the archive in a sercurable area makes great sense too if the space is available.

Chuck,
Remember to be aware of possible heat build-up.  Spinning drives generate a lot of heat, and heat is the enemy.

The plan is to use a thermostatically controlled bathroom type exhaust fan above as well as passive venting.

Sounds like a plan.
