While researching various "budget" or amateur photo organizing software packages, I stumbled upon this list:

Rank - Name

1 Ulead Photo Explorer
2 Corel Photo Album 7
3 ACDSee
4 CompuPic
5 Imatch
6 ThumbsPlus
7 PicaJet
8 Smart Pix Manager
9 Systweak Photo Album
10 PixFiler
11 Photo Organizer

I had never heard of many of these programs. Does the popularity ranking list seem accurate?

Note: I'm not advocating these programs for DAM use (I use iView/Expression Media). I'm just curious about the options for folks who don't have extensive DAM needs or don't want to spend much money. (The price range of these programs is $30 to $65.) I assume Picasa and iPhoto might also be on the list if they were sold as retail packages.

Maybe XnView?
And i think Nikon ViewNX2 does a very good job when you are using JPG only (or Nikon RAW of course) but i presume most amateurs or budget photographers do not take RAW's.

When someone is willing to pay a lot of money for a reflex camera (most compact camera's are JPG only I think) then it is logical they are willing to pay some for a good DAM like EM2 Smiley
