Working on that project to rebuild the wife's studio's image collection. Just got a couple years worth of files cleaned up (mostly) thanks to a wonderful suggestion to try Nirsoft's free-ware search program to find duplications and other oddities of um ... "nature".

With only two years of images now in final place and "catalogued" in the EM2 program she'd been using (albeit rarely), the EM2 catalog is already at 1.6 gigabytes using only medium size/quality previews. That's within .2 Gig of the hard limit in EM2 of 1.8G per catalog. I've got eight more years of digital files to go, let alone 30 years of "legacy" material to bring some back into the "live" archives over time.

I'm running idImager Pro for my files ... with what, a 2 Terrabyte limit, though I've not got NEAR the image-base that Miriam has. So I'm wondering ...

How well does idImager work with large catalogs? I know I could just make a catalog for every couple years of the missus's stuff ... and then cross-check and search them when/as needed ... but it seems a lot more chances for iffyness to rear it's butt-ugly head than in one or two catalogs. IF those catalogs don't become unwieldy in practice, or begin to display "anamolous" things. And I think it would be a LOT easier for her and her staff to handle say, one catalog for all stuff older than last year and one catalog for current and new stuff, if she would even need two catalogs of idImager right now.

Is big (in excess of say, 20 gigs) safe and comfy in idImager land? I know the "limit" is 2 tb ... If it is, well ... the missus just might need to make another purchase ...

Hi Neil,

20GB shouldn't be a problem. I hope you'll get answers from other IDimager users too as I am perhaps a little biased.

Hert

You tend to be a fan of your handiwork (naturally), but ... I've not found your comments to be in error from either my own limited experience or the comments of others. yet of course, I'd love to hear from some of your clients too!   Smiley
