Hi folks,

I'm having trouble with IFC.  I've spent ages repeating/varying the settings but whilst the bridge says "import complete" at the end of the process, there's nothing in the destination folder but the bridge cache files  Huh

I'm trying to rename my .CR2 (and accompanying XMP) files to the naming convention Peter uses in the book.  I've tried it with virtually every combination of options (metadata, copy to additional folder, rename in the same folder etc.) without success.  I'm stumped.  Any clues?

Cheers
Andy

Make sure "rename as linked set" is not checked.

Obviously the one thing I didn't try - sorry Smiley

Thanks Peter - it baffles me how you have the time to answer all the daft questions from people like me!

Hi Peter
Thx for your reply to this issue, I had the same problem with the added fact that for two images my whole PC was tied up for 12 minutes!! I did as you indicated and that worked fine but..

Well, as you pointed out in your book, you need to rename as link set to carry along sidecar files, so what does one do about that? Of course IFC is intended to import from cameras or card readers which would explain why it annoyingly renames Bridge Cache BC and BCT files but as you said in your book it could be used elsewhere. In fact I did try using it from a card but out of 60 files 4 were renamed but written as zero byte files!!! Of course I had already downloaded copies and backups prior to that.

It all seems a shame because IFC seems to be the only available batch rename that can strip off the first 4 characters of the original filename to leave just the squence number and also allows metadata template merge.. Any suggestions Peter?

BTW Thx for such an excellent book which I lucked on to just at the time I had realised I needed a category based image management system.
