images in catalogs that werent placed there originally

Recently I've imported new images into Iview and placed in one or two catalogs. It's been automatically placing them in other catalogs???
Any advice would be wonderful.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but I've noticed that my catalog sets have been populated with other image versions of what I had originally placed there; for example, jpeg files that have been derived from the cataloged Tiffs, but not cataloged themselves. I wind up purging the catalog sets of these extra files! Auto-update is not active for any of my folders. Steve
