I searched the archives but could not find a precise explanation on how to
preserve metadata in PS CS4 when creating JPEGs for online web galleries. I am
familiar with the option in PSCS4 to "Save for Web & Devices" and have selected
save "All" metadata to the new JPEG. But when I then create an HTML web gallery
(in Bridge CS4) and open that Gallery, then drag a JPEG image from that Gallery
to my Desktop, and open that JPEG in PSCS4, the metadata, with the exception of
my copyright, is all gone. Thanks!

I've never used Bridge's web gallery before, and I don't think I'll do so again. As far as I can see, you are right and it strips the metadata when it generates the web JPEGs. That's sloppy.

You could probably do something with Tools > Image Processor. You'd regenerate the JPEGs at the same size and overwrite those created by Bridge's web gallery.

A knowledgeable guy on another forum explained in detail how Bridge strips all of the metadata except the Copyright Notice, the Copyright Flag, and the Rights Usage Terms.  He suggested using another program, like Microsoft Expression Media, Photo Mechanic or Lightroom to create the web galleries.  MEM does not strip the metadata, so that is what I will do until Bridge is updated.
