I used iView and Expression Media in the past and got tired of the issues using programs.  What happened as a result is I had not kept up with my catalogs and now I am trying to use Ligthroom for my cataloging program.  In the past I used catalog sets to create groupings of photos I wanted to use for a particular purpose, it was great I would just drag the thumbnail over the the appropriate catalog set and I would be able to find the images to future use.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but this weekend when I was looking around to images to use in a presentation, I could not drag images over to the collection I was going to use.  Is there a way to continue to add images to a collection?  When I highlighted a series of images, I tried to add them to a collection and I was told that collection was already present.  If this is the designed behavior is there a way to do this like I would have in iView?

Hopefully, this makes sense and someone here can enlighten me.

Usually there are 2 reasons why you may be unable to drag items into collections:

1. You are dragging the frame around the thumbnail - drag the thumbnail itself
2. The items are already in the collection you're dragging to - open the collection and see

Thanks John!  I must have been dragging the frame around the thumbnails last night.  Now I will never forget!

Scott,

That's one of those little oddities of Lightroom that catches about everyone now and again. It is so easy to forget that it sees a CLEAR distinction when it ain't obvious to us ... and be puzzling why we can't drag-&-drop like we did just ten minutes ago. And then next day, ooops ... we remember. I've done that I don't know how many times, and many of me pro peers tell me they've done the same.

Hi
I was reading this post and remembered lots of frustration when trying to drag and drop into sets by mistake.
Alll kinds of help couldnt explain what was going on.
Yes drag and drop to collection folders not sets.
