How to clean up RAW+JPG pairs?
«

Since new cameras often has limited RAW support, i would shoot RAW+JPG mode, generating 2 files per exposure.
In LR, it is not a big deal, since the duos can be auto-stacked. Unfortunately both files show up in Expression Media (EM).
I no longer have a need for these jpegs, and would like to delete them (or at least not see them in EM).
my problem: I also shot a lot of images JPG only (so i can't just delete ALL jpeg files, ONLY those where a corresponding RAW file exist.)
All these files are cataloged in both LR and EM.
Q1: how to get rid of all these jpegs in a automated & foolproof fashion? (perhaps use LR or EM to do it?)
Q2: after they're gone, also remove them from my LR and EM catalogs
thks!

In Lightroom, I assume that in Preferences / General you have
not
ticked "Treat JPEGs next to raw files" - so you see only the raw file.
Can you select all the raw files and add a certain keyword eg "Duplicate". Then save with Cmd S / Ctrl S. I think that should update the JPEGs too. So then import into EM and select all JPEGs with that keyword. Not tested, but it should work.

John, yes your idea worked, thanks!
but:
Q1: in the test i did, LR 2.7 still shows these files (RAW only now) as NEF+JPEG. How do i tell LR that the jpegs are now gone? I tried "Synchronize Folder..." without success.
Q2: since all my files are still in their original imported state (so ALL my metadata, keywords, IPTC, etc. exist in LR and EM catalogs files only), i would prefer not to have to generate 1,000's of XMP files for my NEFs to accomplish this, or write metadata into my jpeg files. maybe a script that looks for files in a folder w/ identical name & time-stamp, and multiple filetypes?
thks,
pieter

Pieter,
I'm going to assume that the LR team did not forsee this and build in a way to purge the memory of the JPEG. Can you see the JPEGs and hit the delete key to remove from catalog?
As the the other part, I'd say go ahead and make the sidecars. What's the problem with doing so?
