Longtime Capture NX2 user with Expression Media.  Seeing the NEF's embedded jpgs in iView/Expressions after RAW editing with CNX2 was no problem.

CNX3 doesn't look like it is coming, so I am kicking the Lightroom tires again.  I can't find anyway to prevent LR from reprocessing the extracted jpgs.  I see them correctly at first, and then LR reprocesses them.  I have set the import options to embedded and sidecar, and have set the camera calibration settings to camera standard.  Still no luck.

Is there any way to force the previews to display the embedded jpgs?

I'd very much like a preview mode, not because I like the Capture look but for speed while reviewing images. But for now there's no way.

However, a few people are working on plug-ins using  Exiftool and other tools, so I feel it's a matter of time before it's possible. Take a look at http://luc.lakephoto.org/journal/viewfinder-plugin/ for example.

Thanks John for the response

It's a shame that Adobe still forces you to do it their way.  If I want to render previews by using the embedded jpgs, I should have the choice.  But of course, they think their interpretation is always preferable.

Guess I will have to wait for Photomechanic's upcoming DAM application.  If it ever comes out.

Mark,
It's probably less about thinking theirs is always "better" than a user confusion issue. Only a smallish percentage of Lightroom users actually know the difference between the two.  And even for those who do know the difference, an entire new UI is required to let the user understand what he is looking at.  No other application offers both customized rendering, as well as the ability to see another application's embedded rendering.

I'm confident we'll get there eventually, but I can't blame anyone for not wanting to go first. The customer support costs alone will be a significant hit.
