I've just put on my web site (
http://basepath.com/ImageIngester/) a new version of ImageIngester (it's free!) with two new features since I mentioned it here last:
* There's a Windows version, and
* it now can apply template metadata to DNGs.
You set up templates in Photoshop exactly as described in The DAM Book.
How does ImageIngester fit in? This is the Editing Workflow in Chap. 6 of The DAM Book:
1. Ingest to computer
2. In the field, save the card's images to a digital wallet
3. Back up
4. Build cache in Bridge
5. Verify files (visually, in Bridge)
6. Erase cards
7. Sort images if from multiple cards
8. Rename files
9. Apply copyright and bulk metadata
10. Rate images
11. Adjust in Camera Raw
12. Apply keywords, etc.
13. Create DNGs
14. Back up DNGs
15. Save original raw files, if desired
16. Catalog images
ImageIngester can do these steps automatically when you insert a card (you don't even have to click any buttons):
1. Ingest to computer
3. Back up
5. Verify files (non-visually)
8. Rename files
9. Apply copyright and bulk metadata
13. Create DNGs
There's lots more on the web site, including a more detailed discussion of how ImageIngester fits into Peter's suggested workflow and a description of a simplified workflow that's fine for people like me who have relatively few images to deal with at any one time.
Enjoy!
