Hallelujah! Looks like we finally get to write metadata to DNGs in Portfolio. From Extensis:
A free update (v8.5.5) is now available for Portfolio™ 8.5 stand alone customers. This is a recommended update for all users and includes: Camera Raw filter support for the latest and most popular camera models on the market today, Digital Camera Raw Formats, Full DNG workflow support (preserves color adjustments and allows XMP metadata embedding), Series of performance and stability improvements.

Yes, this is indeed great news.
I have been in contact with Extensis, and they are re-energized about providing solutions specifically geared to the photographer.
