I'm imagining what a minimalist version of II might look like on the iPad. Unlike an iPhone or an iPod Touch, it seems that an iPad will have the ability to connect to camera cards. So, it might make sense as an in-the-field backup and viewing device, with eventual uploading to a computer.

I'd be interested in how such a capability might fit into a professional workflow.

Marc,

The idea of a tablet being able to be the only computer I carry on a trip sounds like an amazing opportunity but unfortunately, the lack of storage capability of the iPad doesn't quite fit the bill for me.  Seeing that I shoot 16GB cards, typically, two in my D3 at a time, downloading to a device with a max of 64GB of space that also is holding my music, videos, and other things just doesn't sound useful.  Now, if there were a couple USB ports and you could download to a small drive, then I could see traveling with an iPad only and using II to download images to external drives and then doing all my editing back home.  However, as it stands now, I don't see the iPad being used for that function.  My vote would be don't bother coding for the iPad at this point and continue to improve II though I'm not quite sure how much it can be improved.  You've already implemented all my requested functions!

Keep it up,
Drew

I'm of the same opinion.  I don't think it will be useful for downloading until a subsequent version.

While there are certain things to like about the iPad, like its IPS panel, the deivce that I am more interested in is Lenovo's upcoming Skylight.  It is almost as light as the iPad, but is has USB ports, a keyboard and 3G built in to the unit.  This means that I can easily hook up a card reader and USB drives!  It runs on a Qualcomm processor, but I believe that the OS is a variant on UNIX.  My guess is that there are going to be a number of smaller devices coming to market this year, so you may want to wait and see.  right now, I do not easily see using an iPad in the field as a backup device.
