How to convert from TIFF to DNG?

I read on a couple of threads that you can convert TIFFs into DNG. Unfortunately i had no success trying this with the latest DNG converter (v5.6). Lightroom 3 Beta doesn't do it either. My TIFFs are 16bit sRGB by the way.

What am i doing wrong?

Can you make the DNG through Export?
Also, 16 bit sRGB? If you are taking the trouble to use 16 bit, you should be working in a larger color space like Adobe RGB or ProPhotoRGB.

The TIFFs are B&W, so i might even convert them to grayscale.
I just tried the export feature in Lightroom and it seems to work. The resulting DNGs are smaller than Zip-compressed TIFFs, nice!

Looks like an old thread.... but oh well....

I use IDImager as my DAM application.  Don't use or own any other tools for editing... I mainly archive photos, I never have learned how to edit or cleanup photos in PS or Lightroom.

I have also discovered that Adobe DNG Converter will not convert a TIF to DNG.  Is there any ( free) tool out there that can do this (in batch mode)?
