Newbie. Working with

Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie to this forum. I'm also about to purchase the dam book this week. I wanted to ask for suggestions on how to organize when working with people on my team and other departments within my company. We currently have a process that works but is not ideal..
Here's the process.
- Photographer shoots.
- Saves them onto the server (in folders named - Date_name of project)
- Star the ones that are best in bridge
- Designer opens bridge and grabs the rated ones from the server.
- Designing is done and then it's done.
Right now, with bridge, it's hard to locate images or know what's in each folder.... the folder is named the date and the project. ideally we want to get more specific and locate a type of image within the project. When other departments request an image (thankfully it's not too often), I have to go back and look based on project and then guess which one it might be in. It'll be ideal for them to search for it and be able to find it instead of asking me each time. They have access to the server and have bridge.
Is there another software soluction for us? We all have bridge currently. And for the process.. any tips are welcome. Thanks!!!

Manus,
Sorry for the delay.
I think you might want to look at an online collaboration tool, like GlobalEdit, or other.
How many people on the team?

Any other options besides an online tool? We have about 8 people on the team. Sometimes people in other departments want to browse as well. Any other suggestions?

Manus,
You have several structural choices here.
You could continue using a browser-based approach. Maybe PhotoMechanic would offer a better browser experience.
You could get a multi-user database like Extensis Portfolio, but it's expensive (more than $10k, at the cheapest).
You could use an online tool (perhaps something like Photoshelter -cheaper - , or GlobalEdit - more expensive).
I personally think you're a better candidate for an online tool.
