As anyone who has read Peter's new book knows, Copy/Transfer validation is an essential component to a secure DAM workflow.  I was just informed that IDimager has built-in bit-by-bit copy validation which can be turned on via a registry setting.  The copy validation is transparent to the user with just a small performance hit.  By having the validation built into the catalog manager, a third party tool does not have to be used to perform this operation and images remain connected to the catalog following the transfer.  This basically makes transferring your working files with validation to your archive a seamless operation and one less process the photographer has to worry about.  This is just another plus for an already amazing product.

By the way, for those who don't know, IDimager version 5 has just recently been released with many new features www.idimager.com.  When it comes to image asset management, IDimager is truly in a class all by itself.  If you're on a PC and take your photo management seriously, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.  Also, the support forum is extremely active and one of the most helpful support forums I have ever participated in.  Hope to see you there.

Check out the online manual for more info on it's seemingly endless capabilities http://manual.idimager.com/.

Dan,
Thanks for pointing that out.  Once again, Hert is leading the pack.

Dan,

So, I'm looking for instructions on this, which is WAY cool ... where do I find them?

I discovered a caveat.  If you copy and paste folders in the Media Browser with verification on it works and takes about twice as long.  If you drag and drop it does not use the verification.  So to get the verification you must use a copy and paste operation (i.e. Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V) on the folders.

Was just notified by Hert that drag-n-drop validation will be fixed in the next update due out in about a week.  How's that for support ;-).

Dan,

Yes, the support is cool ... and I'm looking forward to this update as it will supposedly fix the bug where the File Monitor (if you turn it on) wipes out new profiles you make in the Downloader module and other places ... I'm looking forward to using  the monitor to just automatically "catch" if I change a cataloged image in LR or Bridge, and re-syncing.

Right after reading the post above, specifying where to go to get the info to turn on file validation, I did ... haven't used it yet to transfer, but I'm gonna be soon, nice to know it'll be ready when I want it!

Neil,

There is a work around for that problem if you're not aware: Exit /turn off the Idimager Monitor whenever you save profiles. For some reason, the Idi file monitor traps? or restores? changes to download profiles.
