I recently upgraded my primary archive storage and now have two 400GB externals that I plan to use as swappers for Working Files backup.  On page 230 of the 2nd edition it refers to "...a twin the rotates offsite" so I'm assuming that I would make these two drives identical to start out with, i.e., same volume names, folder structure, etc., right?

And I'll be using ChronoSync to perform a nightly scheduled, validated mirror of the working files from the internal drive on the workstation to the external.  When I "bring home" the 2nd drive I'm assuming that, since it's identical to the first, ChronoSync will just mirror the Working files as scheduled because it will see the 2nd drive as being the same as the first.  Is this right?

Any other pointers on migrating these drives into service as swappers?

Thanks,

Andy

Andy,
It's been my experience that Chronosync will see each drive discretely (even if they have the same name, it knows they are not the same drive by serial number).

I therefore name them Swapper1 and Swapper2. I have a chronosync scheduled task for each, named Swapper 1 and Swapper 2. I run the one that matches the currently mounted drive.

One nice thing about doing this through the Scheduled Documents Manager is that you get a date record sitting in the UI that shows you when it was last run, so you can tell the freshness of your offsite with no extra work.

Peter,

Good to know.  Do you know if jobs can be created in SyncBack that can be scheduled or run with a click of the mouse?  I'm just about ready to start implementing some of the new techniques from the book.  IDimager slowed me down somewhat if you know what I mean, but I think it's going to be worth it.
