I would like to hear something from Peter about his actual workflow.
I own both book and video.
Actually mine is this:

1) Download to Computer
2) Rename (YYMMDD_Photographer_Number) , mass Keyword, rating in Bridge CS4
3) Archive (I use Raw and derivates) and import in EM2 fine tune key wording, Catalog ecc.
4) Deliver some images to different on line agencies

I would like to know if Peter still use EM2 or swithch to Adobe Ligtroom.
I would like to have some new video only for EM2 for multi agencies - Client - multi photographer archive.
Thanks.

Download with ImageIngesterPro (rename, add bulk metadata, backup)
Rate and Adjust with Bridge for a small shoot
Rate and Adjust with Lightroom for a big shoot
Convert to DNG, archive and catalog with EM2
Peter, when you convert to DNG, do you "embed original RAW file" in the DNG? Or does "backup" in your step one cover that?

Jim,
I personally toss the proprietary raw, but I don't suggest others do, until they have a good grasp on the issues.

Peter, are you using Mac or Windows in this workflow? You may recall I had a HUGE problem with ImageIngester renaming (and ultimately destroying) about four months worth of images on both the internal and external backup drives. I really want to use II, but am deathly afraid of even trying. Do you have any suggestions of a safe way to try it. I have one internal HD in my iMac and three external HD's via USB. Marc eventually said that he thought I had a conflict of software that caused the problem?Huh

thanks

Garth,
I'm mostly Mac. The archive is on Mac.
I remember the problem, but I still have a bit of a hard time accepting that ImageIngester did that, and not some other error or malfunction.
If I could imagine a scenario where that could happen with ImageIngester, I'd be able to help create a safer workflow, but I since I can't get a grip on what happened, I'm at a loss to tell you how to do things differently.

Vittore,
I'm still using a workflow that will look quite familiar to those who have seen the old videos.  There have been some improvements, however.

Download with ImageIngesterPro (rename, add bulk metadata, backup)
Rate and Adjust with Bridge for a small shoot
Rate and Adjust with Lightroom for a big shoot
Convert to DNG, archive and catalog with EM2

Hi Peter,

Can you outline the reasons you choose to convert to DNG after Adjusting rather than prior to bringing into Lightroom?

Having read the 2nd edition I was of the impression that you recommended convert to DNG prior to any adjustment workflow i.e on injest with IIP?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
It's a toss-up at the moment. The best reason to make a DNG right away is the data validation hash code.  This will be most useful once there are more ways to check it.  Those aren't here yet.

If I know I'll be adjusting in Bridge (smallish shoot) I'll hold the conversion off. It makes more sense to do the conversion on import if I'm going to adjust in Lightroom (larger shoot).

Peter
