Just a clarification.  If one is transfering files from one hard drive to another inside the same computer, does the issue  apply:  "Files might be dropped in transfer, or they might be copied incorrectly. If you want to really be sure, you’ll need to do a validated transfer"  ?
Does one have to use ChronoSync to move files around hard drives in ones computer?  Or does it refer only to transfers between different computers?  Thanks  Amada Huh

Amada,
As I answered on the blog, I'd say, "yes."

Anytime you copy the bits from one drive to another, you run the risk of an improper copy. Changing the file name or folder on the drive is not picking up the bits and moving them elsewhere, but rather just changing directory entries.

And keep in mind that not every transfer requires validation.

If I am copying catalogs to my laptop to take on the road, I'll generally skip the validation, since it will *probably* work fine, and there would generally be no huge loss if this copy were corrupted.  That's a whole different matter if I'm sending image to the archive from my working folder, and I'll be erasing the files from the working drive after backup. It *would* be a big problem if something happened to these files.
