You can put it anywhere you wish, and then use File > Plugin Manager to install it. By putting it in Modules, Lightroom automatically installs it. I'm one of a number who prefer to install it myself, and have set up a Plugins folder.

Hi John,
I saw somewhere that you were close to releasing a new version of this plug-in. Any possibility that it will support transferring metadata to the keyword field? Specifically I would love to find a way to transfer data from, Country, State, City, Location fields into Keywords. Or does anyone have an easy way to add this info to both the metadata fields and keywords all at once.

Hi Fredrik
That isn't possible in LR2 because it won't allow code to update the keywords field. It's an obvious omission, so maybe it'll be possible when LR3 is fully released. If so, I'll be updating the plug-in to take advantage of the change.

I've just uploaded version 1.0.6.7 of my Lightroom plug-in <a href="
http://www.beardsworth.co.uk/downloads/lightroom/replace/index.php
" target="_blank">Search & replace, Append, Transfer</a> which includes some big changes:
It should work in the LR3 beta (but remember, the beta is not meant for real work)
Instead of the long drop down lists for choosing fields, there are now dialog boxes
The new menu item "Library > Plug-in extras > Parse and audit" reviews your metadata entry
16 custom fields, plus fields for Event and People like in iView/Expression Media
An optional module converts certain iView/Expression Media metadata fields to LR
Documentation is both beefier and prettier

John,
I use this plug-in and to answer a question in the article, it would be worth it to me to purchase it. Would the purchase entitle buyers to future updates?
I'll probably wait to download the "debugged" version, but I have a comment about the version I have. Recently I needed to write (Transfer) the Title to the Filename, but as I remember the Filename field was not a field that could be targeted. I assume this is the same in the new version. Could the Filename field be added as a target field? (I could see someone really messing-up by accidentally using this as a target field though.)

This is that version, and it'll include updates up to the date LR4 is officially released. After then, it'll be a $10 version upgrade.
I feel title to filename is "out of scope" as it involves changing file names rather than merely manipulating metadata. If you want to do this, why wouldn't you use LR's Rename which allows you to use the title in a renaming preset?

John,
I didn't realize LR had that renaming option - I had made some presets long ago that I use over and over, except to temporally adjust once in a while. Thanks.
Updates through LR3 - sounds good to me.

John,
I recently deleted my LR Preferences file and my plugins weren't available. I downloaded BeardyReplace and installed. The plugin window has this statement:
"The latest version of this program is 1.0.5.2, you are running version 1.0.6.7." Weird.
Second, I do not see a way to pay for this plugin. Actually, the plugin worked for me today without paying. I used it today several times on about 90 to 120 files each time time I ran it.
