Is there a particular reason that hierarchical keywords are not arranged alphabetically by the parent? It makes no sense to me to have to sort through keywords especially since every keyword that I ever applied in Lightroom shows up in the Hierarchical Keywords panel whether it was flat or hierarchical. If I have to sort through all of the unorganized keywords, I might as well just be sorting through the images themselves.

I have to admit this is a big minus point for me as well. I would like to use EM2 as my main database program as it is so quick (I am currently using the huge resource hog called Lightroom Smiley ) and as you say, you may as well just look through the normal 'flat' keyword list! - Maybe in the next service pack?
