I need to stuff data from a Filemaker database into ITPC data fields. I have some 1500 TIFF scans from a Nikon scanner and a database of caption and other metadata for those image in Filemaker. The eventual DAM endpoint is Aperture.

I don’t think there a way to link select fields from the Filemaker DB to Aperture ITPC fields, but is there another method of doing this in a efficient manner? I don’t mind using another application for this, but it will be a one time deal, so investing in more software is not so appealing to me.

Hi Chris,
I found this old post of yours. Did you ever figure out a solution?
I'm in a very similar situation with metadata for about 6000 images in my FileMakerPro DB, that I would like to transfer into ITPC data in my case Lightroom or iViewMediaPro.

Frederik,
Tat sounds like a job for Beardsworth, but he's on book deadline for the month.

There is an XML import for iView, but getting it to map to the right field/file is probably not a fun prospect.

Fredrik -

I have not used Filemaker n many years, but one approach would be to export the data from Filemaker into a text file and use a script to insert the information into iView.  There is script that comes with iView that can be modified to do this, unfortunately right now I do not remember the name and I do not have the software in front of me.

The hardest part is going to be getting the data lined up in the same order as your photos in iView.  I did something like this, but I started with an excel file from my old database, converted it into a text file that was comma delimited for each of the fields, then I ran a script to insert the data from the file into EM and then I sync'ed the data to the scan files.  I took me several evenings to figure out how to modify the scripts.   I have been hacking scripts and macros for many years now and I definitely not a scripting expert like John Beardsworth.  I would think if you were going to do this only once, I would just hire John to do it for you as his transformer application looks pretty good and it would save you more than a couple of headaches.

One alternative is http://www.troi.com/software/fileplugin.html. The troi plugin for Filemaker (@ $90 single user) allows you read write access into the XMP & ITPC data as well as several other handy functions. This is a staple in my FMP toolbox.

Good luck!
