Still working my way around CS4, but one thing I don't get is why when I make adjustments in ACR, and then open the file,
why the file in PS looks so much different that the window in ACR.  The opened image looks darker, more saturated, and
more contrasty.

Brian,
Any chance your CS4 Color settings is not set to Preserve Embedded Profiles?
Does the profile in the bottom left corner show the same profile you assigned in Camera Raw?

Hi Peter,
I did have the color settings to Convert to Working,
so I have switched it to Preserve, and we'll see if that
makes it more consistent.  Thanks,
