I may have mentioned this in the past, but it bares mentioning again.  If you are on Windows or Vista, Directory Opus 9 is "as the kids today would say" the 'Shiz'!  I haven't even scratched the surface of everything it can do, but if you are so inclined, check it out here http://www.gpsoft.com.au/Intro.html, and of course the forum is here http://resource.dopus.com/.

Dan,
Does it give a running count of the file sizes in a folder?

Peter,

Yes it does.  It also gives a running count of folder sizes, and uses background threads to calculate them on the fly.  Click on the "Contents" tab, select "Preferences", then "Folders", then "Folder-Options" for more info http://www.gpsoft.com.au/manual9/NetHelp/default.htm.

Dan,

A similar program that I like to use is Free Commander.  I find it quite useful, and I especially like that it can be installed on a flash or USB HD for portability.

Ken,

Thanks for passing that on; and it's free http://www.freecommander.com/index.htm!  I also see that it calculates folder sizes.  Looks like it's worth every penny ;-).  I'll put it on my todo list.

Dan,

You are quite welcome.  I actually ran accross Free Commander after looking at DO.  I liked DO, but was not quite ready to turn "everything" over to it, and then I found Free Commander.  It is very useful at work because I do not have Admin. rights on my machine, but it allows me to compare folders and files since its "portable".

Take care,
