I have become completely confused with double listings in Iview. I am constantly having the same term listed in the organizer more than once. For instance I might add the term "Basketball Game" as an event then later after shooting another basketball game, I type "Basketball Game" in the event section when entering my keywords and other information and now I have "Basketball Game" listed twice. One has 312 images and the other has 270 different images.

I also have this happen with the Author section. I can use my template for Author when entering information and it will add my name "John Bowman" a second time. For instance after adding some images just now I have 15,417 images under "John Bowman" and now another 312 under "John Bowman". They both have the same information such as address and all as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

John,
I'm not sure whether you are describing a situation where there is a double entry in one field (two authors of the same name in the author field) or the same information in two different fields (EventName in the Event Filed and the Keyword Field).

There is a way to get iView to cleanup the double entry, open the field with, I think, the option key held down. (If this is not the correct key, then check the manual to see which one it is.  It's either command, Option or Control).

If you have information in two different fields, then it's pretty easy to select all images with EventName in the event field, and make sure they also have the EventName in the Keywords.

Does that clear it up?

Peter,

Thanks for the reply.  I am talking about in the same field.  For example in the author section "John Bowman" X 2.  I have cleaned it up with clicking and dragging and will look into what you described, but why does this happen.  It is pretty frustrating to have to do this all the time.  Any info is great.

Thanks,
John

Any chance you have an extra space in a metadata template? iView would see this as two entries.  Also, can you pinpoint any workflow practices associated with either designation - like images annotated with a particular Bridge template show up together, or images annotated with iView of PhotoMechanic appear separately?

Peter,

I just went to test a little more with the Author section and I want to outline what I am trying so maybe you can point me in the right direction.  I will be honest I have gotten a good feeling for Iview, but I haven't printed the manual and read the whole thing yet.  I have just read parts when I needed and may have missed something.  Here is what I am doing.

1)  I have saved an author template with my name, address, email, phone #, etc.
2)  After I import a group of pictures I select all the images and click on the Info tab.
3)  Then I either type my name in the Creator Secion (it autofills my name as I start typing) or I click the arrow and select my name.
4)  At this point it will only have my name entered, it will not have the address and all.
5)  So I then click on the the little mail icon or whatever it is and open up set creator details.
6)  I click on the icon next to creator and sellect my name (the template) so it will fill in the other information.
7)  After it updates the annotations, I go to the organize tab and it has created a new John Bowman in the author section.  Both John Bowman's have the same exact information.

I am sure I am doing something wrong.

Thanks,
John

Peter,
I was wondering if you were able to tell where my problem was from the steps I outlined above.

Thanks,

John,
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I would say this. I strongly suggest that you apply a metadata template to your images the first time you see them.  Do you use my workflow, bringing images through Bridge/ACR before iView?  If so, I would suggest applying the template there.

Peter,

I would say I use a hybrid of your workflow and my own.  At this point I was kind of trying to skip Bridge.  I shoot RAW/JPG because of shooting Sports and I do not always having time to go immediately make corrections on hundreds of images.  I have been taking images of the card and onto my computer, then running the raw through the DNG converter and then working in Iview.  It seems that Bridge does not always play nicely with Iview and other applications, such as the Urgency field issue that is being discussed at the moment.  Really this point in Iview would be the first time I see the images in a application that I can apply a template.  I would hate to have to go through Bridge just to apply a template.  Thanks for the input.  Maybe I will send an email to Iview, I have tried their forums on a few issues, but no one ever responds.

John,
How about this, select the image, go to the info panel, click the pencil icon at the top and apply the template that way.  I'm not sure why you take the extra step of tying in the author field first. I think this may be where the problem is.

BTW, the iView forum is for user to user.  File a tech support request if you want direct response.

Peter,

Thanks for another try.  I had actually tried that as well and had the same results.  I also am having the same issue with other things like in the Event section having "Basketball Game"  appear twice.  I did send a support request this afternoon.  I guess I just thought Iview had a moderator that helped out in the forums like you do here and Hert does on the IDI forum.  I guess you can't have everything everywhere.  Thanks again for all the help.

The iView folks do monitor the forum, but support requests go through amore accelerated channel.
