John- Is there a problem with your website? Or are you "composing" from the Pub again?

I may as well be knocking back the pints! Yes, there is a problem, a different one though.... Yesterday I switched my hosting package but stayed with the same company, and the cunningly-devised plan was to get all the html, images, email settings, and databases working on the new platform before switching off the old one. We're cutting edge here, you know.

Unfortunately someone misunderstood the words "IMPORTANT - REFER TO XYZ (the guy at the host who handles the account) DO NOT SWITCH THE DNS SETTINGS UNTIL CUSTOMER REQUESTS". Yes, I was long-winded and ambiguous as ever, but most of all I was foolish enough to enter those words in a box called "Special instructions". Naturally enough, they were completely ignored, and I immediately lost access to my old web space, and my new web space won't go live until the DNS settings are propagated over the next 24-48 hours.

Not by luck, I had absolutely everything backed up to my PC, though it will take a while to hook up the database-driven stuff like the blog and the pictures. I am lucky that I can handle it all myself. Yet thinking back to the recent Digital Railroad fiasco, can others with online material say the same?

Normal service will be resumed...

John-sorry to hear about your troubles. Great to hear you weren't contemplating a permanent move to a pub existence. But, then again your site isn't up yet.  Wink

Thanks Chris. Damn - I thought I hadn't added any posts after backing up the blog database, but if that's all I lose I'll still be happy.

John
I've tried leaving a comment on your Bridge blog, but a capcha? error occurs? there was no "repeat this word" box?
Comment was:
Is it possible to script Bridge to open RAW files in LR2 rather than ACR?
I assume the import photos dialogue box would need to be accessed, but it would move Bridge - LR closer together, as they are meant to be!
Previewing "loads" of images quckly is faster in Bridge, then import the essential ones into LR. The rest can follow later, and the priority ones would not be re-imported!

Thanks Chris. I'll have my IT department investigate! One interesting thing was how I recovered that Trojan Horses post, Googling the phrase and my surname, and then clicking the cached version of the web page. Thanks to Google, I can entirely forget about backups from now on! Hm.

I'm pretty sure I worked out a way to do what you suggest without scripting. IIRC it's via the right click Open With command, which picks up any applications listed by the OS. But you can certainly launch LR or any other application via the Favorites panel - navigate in Bridge to the program folder in the Folders panel, switch to Favorites panel, then drag the application to it.
