HELP!My iView 3.0 is freaking out :(
«

It all started this morning, when I needed to build a quick web gallery (85 photos) and iView told me that the folder I was writing the gallery to was coming back with an error, I should please select a new folder. I did that. Nothing. Same error. Restarted iView. Same error. Restarted the computer. Same error. Tried a folder on a different drive. Same error. Reinstalled iView. Same error. Gave upÂ
and had Capture One build me the web gallery - my client was waiting.
Then this evening, did all my DAM stuff and am uploading just a few product shots into my catalog. I did that and saved the catalog - but for the last 30 minutes I have a spinning clock and iView is counting some percentage in the lower left hand side of the screen:
By now it's up to over 17000% of who knows what. If I quit iView (I did earlier), the catalog is corrupted and I have to go to a back up (thank you time machine) to restore to an hour ago.
Can you help me?

Just a quick thing to check-
Did you recently upgrade to a new version of Quicktime? If you check threads, iView will not with QT after a certain version number.

Too bad it wasn't QT- on PC's I think 7.3 is last QT version I can use.
I assume (when you've reset your system and the 'spinning wheel' stops) that you've checked to see that other file finding/moving/copying works properly (ie, other applications, word processing, your file manager, etc), just to be sure you are not encountering an OS problem.
Good luck- I'm interested to learn (eventually) what is causing this problem.

Pascal,
So the result is that you seem to have a corrupted catalog?
Is there a fresh backup from Time machine?
If so, can you forcve the same error?
If things seem to be unstable, like there is some kind of catalog corruption, then it wpould be wise to extract multiple past versions of the catalog from Time Machine and save them off somewhere else, in case a bad corruption was introduced somewhere along the way.
How many items in the catalog and how big it the catalog file?

Catalog is corrupted, some image thumbnails don't show up at all. I just started the DAM system you describe in your book, so it's not that much I would loose if I had to start over - yes I have multiple back ups on time machine and on second drive.
Error can get duplicated when adding one item to catalog or by changing one keyword and re-saving catalog.
Catalog contains 1365 images and is 13.4MB, although iView thinks it is 1.5 GB (with Media being 1.9 GB) - obviously not correct.
I wanted to do a clean system install, wipe the drive and start fresh, 'cause I can't figure out what else could be wrong.

Wiped my drive clean over the weekend. Did a complete new OS install and restored files from backup. I have two catalogs: One for the Raw images - which is fine and one for my derivative images, which still is acting strangely. When I go to save the catalog, it starts counting percentages in the lower left corner, were the size of data and catalog is usually displayed. It's not a big catalog - about 1400 images, so I'm thinking of just starting over.
Help!

Pascal,
Sometimes weird legacy files can screw up the program. I had a layered TIFF that would constantly crash te program. Once I isolated the file and resaved it, the problem went away.
You might want to try the split-in-half method to isolate a problem file.

I had the same thing happen to me - It all came down to a file that had a bad file name starting
with #, not sure how that happen, but on your desktop CK your file names & make sure
there are no weird names at the beginning, middle or end....so in other words no $#@! etc...
anywhere in the name, it WILL cause a corrupted catalog.
