Marc,

I finally got around to installing and testing ImageIngesterPro version 3 today. Let me first say "Wow!". It was great before. Now it's awesome. My favorite new features are:
  • Easy to manage presets for commonly changed data.
    This is especially important to me because my wife and I often shoot together and I need to maintain the same settings except for rights. Also, I shoot some recurring events and the ability to store a keyword set is a great improvement.
  • Merged XMP data
    I didn't see any mention of this in the blog but saw the setting in the interface and gave it a try. Whoo Hoo!! This eliminates several tedious steps for me.
  • Common starting number
    This was a problem for me because if I changed presets I would get a new starting number and would always have to remember to look at the other preset and pick up that number, then take the new starting number and update my regular preset.

While testing, I have noticed two minor problems.
  • Odd formatting in text box
    In the Destination frame, fhe Folder Arr. text box overlays oddly when the contents are long (probably happens to other fields but I haven't seen it). My actual contents are: {@exif.datetimeoriginal,1,4}/{@exif.datetimeoriginal,1,4}-{@exif.datetimeoriginal,5,2}-{@exif.datetimeoriginal,7,2} {@qf.subject}
    The box looks like this:

    If I select the text with my mouse, it looks OK.
    Everything works OK, it just looks odd.
  • Leading spaces in Categories and People
    When entering multiple items in the Categories and People QuickFields, if the latter items have a leading space, that space is retained. For example, the contents:
    Person1, Person2, Person3
    Will show in Expression Media as
    Person1
     Person2
     Person3
    This is easy to work around as long as I remember not to enter spaces. But it's natural to add the space after the comma. My preference would be to remove both leading and trailing whitespace.

That's all that I have seen so far. Everything else looks solid.

Great job!!

Marc,

I've noticed another anomaly:

If I make changes to the Quick Fields, then click the "Set" button on either Destination or File Handling, the QUick Fields return to their previous value. I don't have to actually change anything in either Destination or File Handling, just click "Set" and then close.

Workaround is to remember to make any changes to Destination or File Handling before changing the Quick Fields

This may be planned behavior. I expected Quick Fields to change when I selected a Master Preset but it surprised me that the others changed the fields.

Thanks,
Michael

Michael--

I'll check this out, too. Probably a bug.

I found the space error that Michael mentions in earlier versions in my Quick Field set up for keywords.  Can be a little tedious to forget the leading space but otherwise great.

Hope to try v3 this week.

Thanks for the great work Marc.

Michael--

All three of the issues you raised (overprinting, extra spaces, losing Quick Fields) have been fixed in Version 3.1.02, just posted.

Marc,

Thanks for the fast response (as always). I've been out of town for the last few days. I'll download the update and try it today.

Thanks again,
Michael

Marc,

I installed version 3.1.03. Everything is working OK but I have noticed a new behavior.  After an ingestion completes, something in the source location (file or folder) is being held open. I see this because I am migrating a lot of old images and after I complete an ingestion, I rename the source folder to indicate that it is complete and can be deleted later.

With this version, I can't rename the folder because something is still open. After I shut down ImageIngester, I can rename the folder. If I perform another ingestion (without shutting down), both the first and second folder remains locked until I shutdown ImageIngester. Previous versions did not leave anything open.

Other than that, everything seems to be working great so far!

Thanks,
Michael

Michael--

I fixed a problem related to this in 3.1.02 (and 3.1.03). But, it sounds like there's another place where it's happening. Can you post here the macros you're using for folder and file naming when this happens?

Marc,

I am using the following:

Folder Arrangement and Names -
{@exif.datetimeoriginal,1,4}/{@exif.datetimeoriginal,1,4}-{@exif.datetimeoriginal,5,2}-{@exif.datetimeoriginal,7,2} {@qf.subject}

Image File Name -
{@prefix,1,-1,_}{@exif.datetimeoriginal,1,8}_{@sequence,-5}

Let me know if you need anything more.

OK, that's what I would have guessed, Michael. The problem is in the EXIF macro code. Fixed in Version 3.1.04, to be posted this weekend.
