While Mark’s departure does leave a gap, Lightroom’s future looks set to continue when development gears up for work on version 3.0. As for what Mark is going to do next, it is known that he is now going to Microsoft in Seattle, and that his future work there won’t involve digital imaging, but instead be focussed on the “user experience”.

Nice to see you in Melbourne.

Peter,

It was good to see you again too and learn the latest DAM stuff.

I guess your comment about Mark's goal for Lightroom ("to kill Photoshop") takes on new significance now.

best regards,
Robert

Jim,
Mark was the chief architect of Photoshop for some time.
When he left Photoshop and went to the research arm of Adobe, one of his goals was to make software that would render Photoshop obsolete.
That project is Lightroom.

While I'm unprepared to comment on Robert's post beyond that, I would say that I never inferred that Mark said it in the context of moving to another company to kill Photoshop.

Peter,

Thanks for your clarification of Mark's background at Adobe.

I certainly didn't mean to imply that anything you said in Melbourne was in any way related to Mark moving to Microsoft. I just thought it was an interesting coincidence and it might be significant in terms of Lightroom's future direction.
