Is there a way to keep the sequence number automatically counting up as it does in bridge or does one have to put a new starting number manually. I use Rajs_yymmdd_0000.  the sequence number has to be manually added for each new card I import. Is there a way to convert nef into DNG and keep Jpegs  while using import from camera

You're probably wanting to use the "Image" number (which keeps incrementing) rather than "Sequence" (which only increments from 1 within each import).

However, be aware that the Image number only keeps incrementing for imports: if you use it in a filename template in a rename operation it doesn't use the same Image counter!
