Hert-
Congratulations on this next step for iDimager. I am very interested to see how this change translates into the iDimager product. As a potential/probable consumer, I find myself thinking:
- this increases my confidence in the long term prospects of the product (ie, even a 1 man Superman sometimes gets tired; sometimes it is good to have additional resources/people to spread the load to avoid burnout)
- you (and your backers) can see before your eyes the two models over last 2 yrs of EM (which seems to be developed in somewhat of a vaccuum, and very, very slowly) vs. your own product (which, from watching the forums, seems to adapt to consumer needs rapidly). I hope your backers appreciate the difference in terms of potential sales and customer satisfaction.
- the price point of iDi is attractive (relative to EM especially), and I wonder if you will be able to preserve it now that there is another financial interest in the product. I am always a bit wary of the effect that financial backing has on price points.
- oh- and if I find out that the backer is Microsoft, well..... (*wink*)
Very good luck to you (and therefore, hopefully good software for all of us).

Hert,
Congratulations! This is good news. I'm a firm believer in the independence and freedom that DNG offers the photographer. I do hope you will continue to focus on the DNG. I'm actually very skeptical of all-in-one solutions that tie the photographer to a particular vendor's database and Raw converter software. The DNG gives me the freedom to pick and choose my own parametric image editing software (PIE) and my own catalog management software. I believe in core competency. I've seen too many all-in-one's fail in many different areas; not just photography. I'm not holding my breath for either EM or LR; and will happily jump ship if I don't see some solid DNG supporting software this year from either of them. I believe that core competency is the only way to stay in tune with specialized needs such as ours. I plan to take a look at iDimager first chance I get. I'm totally swamped at the moment trying to make something happen this year with my business. Thanks for keeping tabs on the forum here. I think that's critical to staying in touch with our needs; something I haven't seen either EM or LR do.
Best Regards,
Dan

Of course there are two sides to this coin. We also need to see the all Raw editor developers jump on the DNG bandwagon.

Congratulations, Hert! Now if I could only find a way to invest in your expected frequent flyer miles, I could be very well off!
I have been away from IDImager (v.4) for a while as I have been trying to get a handle on using LR. I am looking forward to seeing how the two programs can work together for my needs.

Mike,
Unfortunately a Mac version won't be available for the short term.
