Hert-
I wanted to also post my question here, since I think iDimager may be capable of doing what I require:

Can iDimager transfer metadata from one image to another? Please see my post in this forum raising this Q at:

http://thedambook.com/smf/index.php?topic=1526.new#new

Also- is this capability available in all forms of iDi (lite, personal, professional) or only in Professional?

Thanks-
Bill

Hi Bill,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Yes, this is possible with IDimager. What you'd typically do is create a version set of these images and then casecade metadata from any image in the version set to the other images.

This is not possible with Lite (which is the outdated V3 version), but Personal and Pro can both do this.

Thanks Hert (and MikeP, on the other post)-

I was wondering if iDi might also have a simpler, sort of 'copy/paste' way to accomplish this task. I really see this as a '1 file needs metadata from 1 file' situation. (ie, the single cutout PNG file from Vertus lacks the metadata from the source file).

It sounds like even if the only method is the version/cascade metadata procedure, that this would achieve the result satisfactorily.

Thanks- Bill

Bill,

If you are looking to copy XMP data from one file to another then you could use the copy/paste feature in the Image Details panel/dialog. I don't believe that that is what you want; instead you want to copy *all* metadata.

Another way to achieve this is to use the save/load feature in the Exif panel. There you can save the metadata to a file and load it back for another file. Maybe that is an easier way to achieve what you want?

Hert-
Thanks for further ideas. I will have to get hold of a trial of iDi after tax season (the fun never ends) and experiment with doing file-to-file metadata transfers.

My own reference to *all* metadata got me thinking a bit further. I suppose what I'm after is primarily metadata I have added for searching for the image: keywords, ratings, labels, and also other 'my added' metadata such as owner/creator/copyright, etc.

I am not altogether clear on what XMP data is, compared to EXIF, and so forth, so I should probably familiarize myself with what metadata is handled where.

The bottom line for me, though, is that I will definitely try out iDi later this Spring, because you and MikeP have already suggested at least 3 ways that iDi can accomplish the transfer task. Gracias.
