How to upgrade your iView Catalogs

I will be making some notes here on the process of upgrading from iView 2.x to 3.x
SInce the new software should be ready to put into critical service with the release of 3.01, it's time to think about bringing your old work into the new version. I have written about a number of the general principles in Chapter 9, File Migration.
I will address a few specific issues here. At the moment, here are a few concerns:
1. Make a backup of your 2.x catalogs, rename them as CatalogTitle2.6 and then convert them to 3.01 Save the old versions as "snapshots"
2. You should always make a backup of your boot drive before major migration. This will help you if you have to go back.
3. The new iView seems to overwrite some saved settings from 2.x I have found at least these: custom web galleries, and saved searches. If you have made a backup of your boot drive, you can find these saved settings documents and transfer them to the new iVIew.
4. If you have been using Ratings in Photoshop, they can now be seen in iView 3.01. You will want to synchronize the files to your catalog again to harvest this information. Since earlier versions of iView could not see this information, you have to resync to get this information into iView. Keep in mind that some metadata categories (like rating or author) can only hold one entry. Some Metadata categories can hold multiple entries (like keywords). When you resync, you will be replacing information in the categories that can only hold hold one value. The new synchronize command has some new options that can give you control over this process.
I'll post more tips, and answer any questions later.
