When using the action Merge to HDR, metadata from the DNG files used to create it doesn't seem to carry through to the new HDR (.pbm)  file.

Any suggestions on what could be done to have the keyword metadata carried over and made an automatic part of the process?

I know it's a long time since the original question, but if you want to maintain your metadata in your HDR composite, I'd recommend using the floating point TIFF format - as a TIFF you can easily copy metadata into it with existing TIFF-supporting tools (such as exiftool, Photoshop itself, etc.

I don't believe there's any standard way of embedding extended metadata in a PBM... or for that matter, any of the other supported HDR formats (except PSD/PSB, which aren't widely supported for HDR).
