When I select file open recent I get a list  of all my catalogs e.g original scans and also a catalog called origin~3. Also when I select update folder - instead of displaying the proper folder name I again get an abbreviated name with an ~ in it and when the update is completed a set of duplicate folders is created with abbreviated names and the ~ character.

Basically the software is on longer working. As way of background I haven't used the software for about two months (been out of country) and the drive which holds my the files of my images was disconnected during this time. The catalogs and the program file are on my PC main C drive. I am thinking that I may need to reinstall, but I am not sure of the best way to do this to ensure I don't use anything important.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I have put many, many hours into setting up my DAM strategy based around Iview.

This sounds very similar to issues reported elsewhere caused by Quicktime 7.4.  Some user report success in rolling back to QuickTime version 7.3 or earlier.  The earlierst version I could find on the Apple website was QuickTime 7.3.1 and this has only partially resolved the issues for me - I no longer get the truncated windows 8.3 filename but my catalog folder sort order is based on the underlying windows 8.3 folder naming and not the longer folder names.

Take a look at some of the other recent posts in the iView and Expression Media discussions and you'll see others with similar issues.

Try to roll back the QuickTime version and recreate your catalog.

Many thanks. I was able to find an old version of Quicktime on my PC and this fixed everything.  Cheesy

I had exactly the same problem as jelsworth and was looking here to find a solution to it. Uninstalling Quicktime and replacing it with v7.0.4 seems to have fixed the problem. This site has older Quicktime versions for download.
