i shoot a lot of photos in RAW, but occassionally take quick shots and video/movie clips with a digital camera. in iView they show up side by side with a photo.

those of you not using iView and using Aperture or Lightroom, how do you manage and catalog your video clips that go with a shoot?

Reemas (name please)

That's a good reason why it can be hard to really depend on Lightroom or Aperture for DAM. Many photographers are not pure photographers but have other media assets that they need to control as part of projects mainly photographic - eg wedding photographers might have video or soundclips that will be included in the wedding DVD. I feel LR / Aperture will eventually have to allow us to manage these assets, not rendering them through the image processing system but simply displaying them as thumbnails and letting us assign keywords and other metadata.

This is one of those missing features that makes Lightroom and Aperture feel incomplete.  While you might be content to deal with your MP3, PDF or Word documents in another way, it does seem strange that different file types produced with the digital camera can't be dealt with in the same workflow.

If you already own iView, I'd suggest that you continue to use it for these files. (Which will bring up the issue of a bifurcated workflow, and may lead you to reassess the decision to move to Lightroom - or maybe not.)

As far as I know the most management tools support video clips: iView/EM, IDimager, ACDSee, iMatch, ...

Yes,of course, I should have included mention of other DAM products.  Thanks, Hert.

I do find it frustrating that Aperture and Lightroom elected to leave out support for in-camera movies.

peter,
im not too familiar with lightroom, but it looks like i'm stuck with iview. i need some video clips side by side with photos.

would you say LightRoom can replace the workflow as far as Bridge -> iView goes? is it good to use lightroom to bring in a shoot, organize, and send to dmg. (After this I let iView take over for cataloging).
