Hert, this sounds good, but I had a heck of a time downloading the software. Firefox didn't seem to work at all (although I was able to download the manual ok). FF would just spin forever. Finally had to switch to IE and that seems to have worked.

Hi Cary,

I just checked this here (since I use FireFox myself), but had no problems downloading. Maybe it was a temporary hickup.

Thank you for reporting.

Development continues and with all the great feedback I have received I am proud to announce that IDimager V3.3 is available. This new version adds preview caching, XMP caching, stored workspaces, customizable version placeholders for derivative images, ...

Today I have released IDimager Lite Edition. This edition is the first free full featured DAM solution.

All basic image management features are available, like keyword tagging, image downloading (ingest), meta data entry, full XMP/IPTC support, virtual collections, naming conventions, script running, rating/color labels, etc.

I hope that with this new edition I am able to bring DAM software within reach of a broader group of photographers. Either for them to get familiar with what DAM software exactly offers more compared to image browsers or just as a their DAM software of choice.

PS. IDimager is Windows only

Hert,
That looks like a very feature-rich application for free.  I could ask why give away such a nice application, but I suppose the answer is just that you are a really nice guy. ;-)

I tested this programme and it is excellent. There are many features, particuarly the sistering (version) control and the 100% preview that are very good.

Personally, I decided to stick with iview as I did find the user interface too overwhelming and I just dont have the time to learn a new programme. For many people though idimager will be an ideal solution.

Cheers

Hello Mike, no, there won't be a Mac version on the short term.

Today IDimager 3.4 is released for the Professional, Personal and the free Lite Edition.

This new versions is the promissed major quality update but also adds: improved batched metadata entry, full dotted keyword support, and faster embedded preview handling for DNG, CR2, NEF and PEF files (about twice as fast compared to 3.3).

Hi David,

3.4RC1 is not an official release, but is the first ReleaseCandidate (RC1). That is the stage the software enters just before it is release.

Install the official over your existing version.

The download location you refer to is the beta-download location.

Download the official Pro-update here:
http://www.idimager.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=30

Then click "download upgrade only"

Hope that helps

Yesterday, IDimager 3.5 is released for the Professional, Personal and the free Lite Edition.

The new release again improves the application's overall performance. There are also new options that allow customizable information for your thumbnails, the status bar, the preview info area, and the information popup. The integrated Downloader gained some new features to allow traceable download sessions and offers more control over file mirroring during the download process. The database storage has been optimized resulting in a 50% database size reduction, allowing twice as much images to be contained in the catalog.

Some other changes include:
  • Support for flipped-rotation orientation tags
  • Remove thumbs/previews for images that no longer exist by using the Catalog Manager
  • Added support for basic Exif reading for Sigma X3F RAW files
  • Added support for Kodak KDC files
  • Pro Only; Histogram allows clipping with 4 different clipping settings
Furthermore, you can now add customizable info to your thumbnails

generic info:
IDimagerâ„¢ is imaging software that is complementary to your digital imaging equipment. Its many features will make it easier to maintain the large number of photo files that you will produce. Some feature examples are: acquire images from a digital camera, browse, organize, catalogue, version control, archive, edit, e-mail, print, find, slide shows, publish images to the Internet... and more.

IDimager is available in a Professional, Personal, and a 100% free Lite edition.
