ACR Calibration Script now supports ACR3.3

All,

the  well known ACR calibration script, developed by Tom Fors and referenced in several books and web sites, has now been updated to work with the recently released ACR3.3. The script can be downloaded from here

For those not familiar with this script, it automates the procedure developed by Bruce Fraser and described in his book "Real World Camera Raw ..." You copy the values output fromt he script into the "calibrate" tab in ACR as either save it as a settings subset, or as your camera raw default. There is a QuickTime movie at the website that shows how to install and run the script.

I should have pointed out that in order for the script to be useful, you need to take a raw image (with an ACR supported camera, of course) of a 24 patch Gretag Macbeth color checker chart.

Thanks allot for posting this update link.  I'm reading through Bruce's book now and he stated that it's best to shoot the color checker card such that the white patch falls somewhere between ~238-245 I believe (dont't have the book handy).  Do you know if this applies with the ACR Calibration Script as well?  Thanks.

the script automates the steps developed by Bruce so all the guidlines for the manual process apply. The target exposure for the white patch is in the range 237-245 in Prophoto space. The script does make adjustments to get exposure into the correct range but the closer the starting point, the better.

The QT movie showing how to use the script describes it pretty well. It doesn't explicitly state that you should us ProPhoto, ut that is what is shown and matches Bruce's procedure. In order to speed the script along, the QT movie shows that you use 8 bit colour space and also set the output size to the smallest values.
