With my old workflow I transfered everything from RAW to jpg or tif and then opened almost all of the files again and checked if <Image> <Adjustments> <Auto Levels>  or <Auto Color> would result in something nicer than I did with the RAW converter. Very often that was the case.

I would love to stick to Peter´s advice to just keep the DNGs and only produce tifs and jpgs in case I need them for the customer. But then I can´t work on the tifs or jpgs like I did. Maybe I am not good enough with the RAW converter, but some of the photos just look much better once I use the Auto Level in PS CS2. Why is there no corresponding menue point in RAW already? Or is there? Of course I use the calibration menue and the Adjustment menue.

I also have problems with the contrast. There are too many pics where I am not confident with the dynamic range. I want to work on the contrast partially. Thus I have to open the jpg or tif. This is especially the case because I am doing a lot of wedding photos and there are always a lot of deep dark suits. I have problems with both Canon and Nikon files although they react different. But I can´t just leave it to the button in the RAW converter.

What do you think? Do you almost only store the DNGs and have only a few derivatives which you worked on?

Thanks,

Ingrid
