The thumbnail chooser now has selection by folder, date, and type (see below). Also, there's a separate Choose button on the main window, so you can easily decide between starting with or without first choosing. You can choose, set bulk metadata, and then start.
The Preferences checkbox for "Choose images" is now gone.
There's a new Preferences checkbox for controlling whether a folder is passed on to the viewer.
