Forum Migration Soon - will be unavailable

Forum,
We're going to try migrating the forum database in order to address some of the issues we're seeing with forum load speed and other errors. We'll have to be down for an unknown period of time sometime on the near future.
It's possible that some recent postings may be lost in the changeover (These would be postings made after the database is copied to the new server, but before we point the forum to that new server.) We'll try to keep these to a minimum.
If you want to post this week (September 4- 6 or so), you might want to keep this in mind. If you are going to put a lot of thought into a post, you might want to cut and paste a copy into a text document on your computer so that you can repost it, if it gets lost in the switch.
I'll post here once the change has been made.
Peter

Peter--
photo.net upgraded a few days ago, and they made their forum read-only during the transition. That way posts are accessible, but no posts would be lost.

That's obviously preferable and we have looked in vain for such an option. But the only choices seemed to be making all posts invisible, or going through changing all the permission levels to read only.

As of 1200 British Time, breakfast in America, the forum's database is now on a new server.
The question is - is it faster for you?

John and Peter,
A marked difference for me..... much faster. Very nice! I noticed my posts from yesterday are still here too.

Good - let's hope others can report the same experience.
I closed down the site for a couple of hours, copied the data across, checked numbers of posts before and after - oh how I love data migration - so all the threads and posts should be there.

This is great. It's something I had posted about early on. Thanks for undertaking the task and I hope it keeps the forum moving no matter how many members you have.

John/Peter-marked speed improvement, even for 4:00pm east coast USA on a Friday.

Thanks to John for pulling the levers on migration. I hope no one lost any carefully crafted posts in the process, but it looks like the speed is much better.
