Open DNG without updating?

Is it possible to make adjustments to a DNG file and to open the image in Photoshop without updating the DNG? I often have to make what I think Peter calls 'derivative' files for delivery which require perspective correction, etc, and of course removal of the 'proof' sharpening applied initially. Updating DNGs seems to be incredibly slow at this stage. I'd be grateful if anyone knows a workaround.
Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
If you hold down the Alt key then the "Open" button within the ACR dialogue changes to "Open Copy", and this won't make changes to the original DNG. This should speed things up a bit.

And in ACR4.1, another alternative is to hold down the Shift key and Open Object. This places the raw data into a "smart object" layer in the Photoshop file. You can apply some filters to this layer, and transform it too (eg to correct converging verticals). Afterwards you can still double click the layer and change the ACR settings.
