Dear Peter,
Is there an "update path" to CS3 version or do I need to purchase a new one?
Secondly and more importantly where could I find more information on the settings in the Negative mode.
I have followed your advice in photographing my B&W  negatives with a slide copier and getting much better result than with my flat bad Epson scanner. More detail and less scratches but processing them is a bit of a puzzle. For instance what is the “negative range" and "negative curves" and how do they interact? What would be a recommended workflow etc.??
Having tried other methods yours is by far the best but I am at a bit of a loss. Your help would be much appreciated.

If you bought the CS2 version, you get the new version free.  Write to Alyson at peterkrogh.com.
I'm going to split the other part of your post and move it to the Camera Scans section.
