Using LR as a slide sorter for editing using the DAM method works fine but when I go back to Bridge, my changes are not recognized. This is super annoying. This leads me to an almost certainty that none of this information will be readable by third party apps like iView and Portfolio. Any thoughts?

I don't have any issues with this.  Have you synchronized your Lightroom metadata with your image file or XMP sidecar file before trying to view in Bridge?  If so, what version of Bridge and ACR are you using?

Like Rick said ... you need to write your metadata to the XMP sidecar files or the DNG. Under Metadata-Write metadata to files

in the File/Catalog Settings... dialog, on the Metadata tab, there is an option to have Lightroom write metadata to XMP on the fly.

obviously, if you have multiple catalogs, you have to set that for each one.

Dawnee,
Setting LR to write metadata on the fly is problematic.  It can lead to a lockup if the files are offline (this is a bug).
It can also really slow things down when you are making develop adjustments to a lot of imagesat once.
