Wasn't sure of best place to post this. Not DAM software as such.

Can I get some feedback on Disk Warrior from Peter and others who use it. I am considering buying it. I do however have Techtool Pro Version 3 and I have looked at the features of version 4. I wonder about upgrading Techtool Pro, but I am not so sure if it has the abilities of Disk Warrior or if it is really still within the realm of hardware tests.

Also could members give their thoughts on defrag/optimisation programs like iDefrag. I switched to a Mac last year. It sort of felt like on a PC I had to really keep on top of disk fragmentation etc, but I have done nothing like this for nearly a year on the new Mac. I know the old proverb of "If it aint broke.... Don't fix it' but I kinda feel like I should be doing something.

Many thanks.

I am not using Disk Warrior or Techtool yet so I can't comment on those. However, I have read in many places not to use a defrag program on your Mac. It seems that the Mac has a specific way that it deals with disc fragmentation and that a defrag program only messes that up. I have my Mac for 2 years and it hasn't slowed down with use as I had experienced with my previous Pc's.

Techtool does a number of tasks, but does not do the filesystem maintenance that DiskWarrior does.

I believe you need both, particularly if you are a professional.

And it's best to get them *before* you need them.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. Just got back from trying to produce some new work on the west coast of Scotland (Rain and wind for the whole week whilst the rest of the UK seemed to be bathed in spring sunshine.. ;-) to find the replies waiting. Peter, your reply makes sense re' Disk Warrior. I wonder if Peter or any others have any thoughts on the defrag issue (or lack of need for it) on the mac.

Thanks again.

Neil.

If you leave your Mac running overnight, you are not supposed to need it.
I generally don't do any manual defrag on my disks, and the occasional TechTool disk mapping does not show much fragmentation.
