lower case verses capital case

in one of my forum posts someone suggested to me to run i-views batch renaming utility more than once to get the 3 letter extension in lower case, is this needed?
I have found that I have to run it more than once to get for eample; DSC001234.JPG taken on jan 1st 2007
to; Sossity_070101_1234_CO.jpg; like p 81 in the DAM book; Krogh_050101_1234_CO.jpg.
is it better for .JPG to be.jpg? is it better that _co be _CO in caps? like the book? when I run lower case to get.JPG to .jpg, it makes the _CO to _co, does this matter?
must all my photos have the exact same naming scheme? for instance some of the photos in my archive are pictures of me taken by other people, so I would not put my name in front of these as I did not take them. would it be OK if some did have my name in front & some did not?
At what point is it best to back photos up to CD or DVD? after they have been renamed? renamed & annotations synced to photos? what if I change my naming scheme & or meta data/annotations to those backed up photos? will I have to reburn them all over again to get my updated names, metadata/annotations? would it be better to just burn the photos without new names, meta data etc, & keep one set with all the new names metadata etc within an i-view catalog? so I am not reburning material to get updated names metadata? since these elements can change as my needs change & grow?

Caps or lower case is a matter of choice.
I would not put my name on other people's photos.
I burn to DVD after rename, metadata, and adjustments.
